「該讓我們休息了」，兄弟象董事長洪瑞河19日說出了沈痛、遺憾的聲明，「兄弟將走進歷史」，最慢到明年底，象隊在這段時間將尋求買主。
象隊自1984年成立，從業餘走到職棒，看盡了台灣棒球的興衰，洪瑞河說「29年了，對民間企業來說，是一段很長的日子」，洪家五兄弟，從當年30、40歲的壯年，到現在已經60、70歲了，他們已盡了自己最大的力量，對台灣棒球貢獻了最大的力量。
只是世事多變，明年將是兄弟棒球隊30歲的生日，若象隊可以找到買主，將不會走到這一步，對於這樣的轉變，洪瑞河也只能說「希望大家可以諒解」。
過去曾有企業，希望以冠名的方式資助兄弟象隊，洪瑞河19日說「沒考慮過」，因為在台灣，比兄弟飯店大的企業相當多，現在洪家兄弟希望的是「要找到真正有心經營職棒的買主」，就算明年象隊再打1年，象隊拿到總冠軍，洪瑞河說「這是畫下很好的ending」，兄弟象不會再回心轉意了，明年，確定是最後一年。
