在全美唯一賣淫合法化的內華達州，隨著近年來經濟的衰退，色情業也受到影響，難掩頹勢。據美國中文網8月28日報導，當地色情業遊說人士弗林特(George Flint)說，該州妓院數量已經從1985年的36家減少到19家。它們的衰落正在影響財政困難縣的預算，也標誌著這種機構的末日。

根據環球網報導，在燈光昏暗、擺著紅色天鵝絨沙發和裝有脫衣舞鋼管的妓院內，身穿綠短裙、32歲的金髮美女泰勒說，『人們要找好價錢。』她所在的月光農場(Moonlite Bunny Ranch)位於內華達州卡森市(Carson City)。她正在新裝修的妓院推銷自己，『我提供很多特價、折扣和激勵措施，讓人們前來找我。』

斯巴克斯鎮野馬農場(Mustang Ranch)63歲的老鴇蘇珊 奧斯汀(Susan Austin)說，『很多客人都沒有了6年前或5年前的那種可支配收入。……能進來的人也不像過去那樣花錢。』斯巴克斯鎮距離雷諾市15英里。妓院經理說，衰落的原因包括該州經濟萎靡不振、因為油價漲收入降的卡車司機光顧次數減少及網上牽線搭橋。

最近幾年對內華達不大有利。自從2007年12月開始的18個月衰退仍然籠罩著這個州。今(2013)年7月，內華達州失業率9.5%，仍然是全美最高，遠超全國平均水平7.4%。自從2007年第四季度，該州經濟實力下降了46%，也是僅次於新墨西哥的全美倒數第二。多數妓院都是位於人少和就業機會稀有的農村地區。在月光農場所在地里昂縣(Lyon County)，相當於曼哈頓那麼大的面積只有594人。

里昂縣最大的兩家私人雇主是亞馬遜公司(Amazon.com Inc.)發貨中心和沃爾瑪公司(Wal-Mart Stores Inc.)的一家商場。縣主計長弗利(Josh Foli)說，該縣收入從2009年的3300萬美元下降到2012年的2900萬美元，縣公職人員在過去5年減少25%。內華達色情業也出現變化：妓院衰落，個體經營抬頭，客人從大批女人中挑選對象、討價還價然後向收銀員交錢。那些獨立的合同工據說將一半收入交給妓院。
