副總統吳敦義22日接見日本維新會眾議員中田宏等人，稱讚中田宏不只是「玉樹臨風」，「當年做橫濱市的市長，跟台北市馬英九市長，可以說是日本同中華民國兩個最帥的市長之一」。
吳副總統說，「我的感覺是，好像接待一個日本著名電影的男主角一樣」。
副總統說，另外一個使得他對維新會印象深刻的原因是日本的維新之政，因為「維新」對任何一個歷史悠久的國家、民族再造豐華、再創高峰很重要。
吳副總統也感謝中田宏當年協助促成東京羽田和松山機場對飛。
另外，副總統指出，這5年來是台日關係最友好、最密切的階段，包括免簽證、打工度假協議、開放天空協議、投資保障協議、漁業協議等；日本也一直是台灣人最喜歡去旅行的國家，是中華民國第二大貿易夥伴，故宮文物還將赴日展出，不會產生扣押問題。
