你可知道在全球範圍內，Google 的服務有多麼地舉足輕重？Google 今天用數字說話了。

在台北時間 8 月 17 日 6 點 50 分到 6 點 55 分間，Google 發生了當機，包括 Google 網站主頁、YouTube、Google Drive 和 Gmail 等服務統統都受到影響、無法連結。搜尋引擎專家 Danny Sullivan 稱這種所有服務同時當機的情況非常少見。
當機給 Google 帶來的損失如何？其第二季度營收 141 億美元，折算一下，每分鐘就是 10.8 萬美元，5 分鐘就是 54.5 萬美元——這數字對 Google 而言估計算不得什麼。

不過，反過來看，Google 某種程度上也是這次短暫當機事故的受益者——讓世界認識到了 Google 在全球網際網路當中的份量之重。GoSquared 的服務即時蹤了網路內的頁面瀏覽量，而就在這短短的 5 分鐘內，全球網路流量暴跌 40%。服務恢復後，網際網路流量又隨之大幅度增長。還有一點不得不提，從當機到全面恢復，Google 只花了 11 分鐘。(forbes.com)
