請問要怎麼做新竹區間車?

今年剛要上大學一年級
讀新竹橫山鄉的中華科技大學
但是因為自己是高雄人
我都是坐捷運很少坐火車
不太會做
但是大家都說火車很簡單
可是之前有做過發現還是有點不太懂火車的月台

因為在橫山我要去六家火車站搭高鐵
大概知道得是要在橫山上車竹中轉車就會到六家了
可是我不太知道區間車怎麼座
因為之前有朋友帶我做過區間可是是他帶我做我也沒有學

想問的是
如果我要從橫山做到竹中火車站是要做往北的火車嗎?
然後如果沒有買火車票是用悠遊卡
這樣還可以知道他在第幾月台嗎?
記得有分A B兩側
請問是A B兩側是只要時間一到隨便一邊都可以搭嗎?
