BMW i3的成功熱銷替電動車市場開創一個新契機，而豪華車廠開發節能車款的目的，除了是要節省燃油消耗、提供潔淨的生活環境外，亦考量未來廢氣排放法規上的限制。而BMW的節能動力技術也不僅只應用於i-Series旗下的各項車款上，未來也會擴展到其它市售車型，以求更低的二氧化碳排放量與更省油的引擎校能。
