電動車雖然是車壇的一大趨勢，但在各品牌對於電動車的見解也有所不同，有像NISSAN Leaf這種追求經濟的大眾化車款，也有追求極速的超跑；而在電動車的動力系統上雖然也有著不同的形式，但目前多數電動車都採取將電動馬達放置在車身底盤結構上的形式，但近來一汽大眾就宣佈，將與來自美國、專事打造輪轂是電動馬達的Protean Electric展開相關技術合作。
